The SUN PRINCESS, the largest ship ever built in Italy (according to the shipyard), floated out at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone. She is also the first LNG-powered cruise ship to be built by Fincantieri.
The SUN PRINCESS is the first Sphere-class ship for Princess Cruises and is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2024. The cruise ship, measured at 175,500 gross tons, will accommodate up to 4,300 passengers.

Der Horizons Dining Room wird ein dreistöckiger Speisesaal vor. Dieser neu konzipierte Raum ist offen und flexibel und bietet Speiseoptionen für jede Stimmung. Atemberaubende Ausblicke auf das Kielwasser und natürliches Licht heben eine dekorative Skulptur hervor, die sich von Deck 6 bis Deck 8 erstreckt. Die drei Decks haben jeweils ihre eigene Persönlichkeit, bieten unterschiedliche Speiseerlebnisse und variieren in der Kleiderordnung.
Zeitgenössisch und vielseitig: die Princess Arena wird das technologisch fortschrittlichste Theater-Design bei Princess Cruises. Beim Betreten werden die Blicke der Gäste von einem atemberaubenden Bild über der zentralen Bühne angezogen, das Teil der Show werden kann. Sanft geschwungene Wände sollen auf die Bewegung der Gezeiten anspielen. Das Theater wird Platz für 1000 Gäste bieten.
Alfredo’s Pizzeria – Dieser Favorit bei den Gästen wird wieder ein offenes Küchendesign haben, so dass die Gäste zusehen können, wie die Köche Pizza von Hand zubereiten und direkt aus dem Ofen servieren. Neu in der Küche ist ein professioneller Ofen mit offener Mündung, der 968 Grad erreicht und es den Köchen ermöglicht, wirklich authentische, zeitgenössische neapolitanische Pizza zuzubereiten.
Princess Casino – Das größte Princess Casino in Größe und Anzahl der Plätze wird sich auf der Piazza befinden und den Gästen einfachen Zugang zu ihren Lieblingswettspielen bieten. Der geräumige Grundriss sorgt für Komfort und Unterhaltung der Gäste, und mit über 200 der neuesten und beliebtesten Spielautomaten und Video-Poker-Spiele ist für jeden etwas dabei.

Fincantieri is currently constructing the largest cruise ship ever built for Princess Cruises, with space for 4,000 guests.
Interiors will be designed around Mediterranean themes, with a redesigned iconic piazza and the Dome, a state-of-the-art entertainment space inspired by the terraces of Santorini.
The Horizons Dining Room will feature a three-story dining area. This reimagined space is open and flexible, with dining options to suit every mood. Breathtaking views of the wake and natural light will highlight a decorative sculpture that extends from Deck 6 to Deck 8. The three decks each have their own personality, offer different dining experiences and vary in dress code.
Contemporary and versatile, the Princess Arena will be Princess Cruises‘ most technologically advanced theater design. Upon entering, guests‘ eyes are drawn to a stunning image above the central stage that can become part of the show. Gently curved walls are intended to allude to the movement of the tides. The theater will seat 1000 guests.
Alfredo’s Pizzeria – This guest favorite will again feature an open kitchen design, allowing guests to watch as the chefs prepare pizzas by hand and serve them straight from the oven. New to the kitchen is a professional open-mouth oven that reaches 968 degrees, allowing chefs to create truly authentic, contemporary Neapolitan pizza.
Princess Casino – The largest Princess Casino in size and number of seats will be located in the piazza giving guests easy access to their favorite betting games. The spacious floor plan ensures guests are comfortable and entertained, and with over 200 of the latest and most popular slot machines and video poker games there will be something for everyone.
Crown Grill – Another favorite of Princess guests who want to enjoy a steak grilled to perfection. The classic steakhouse atmosphere is taken up here, combined with modern accents. Inviting leather booths, circular seating and modern artwork specially designed for this restaurant welcome guests to a memorable dining experience. Plus, guests can watch their food being prepared in the largest show galley on a Princess ship,
Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria – Serving a modern, casual yet elegant Italian dining experience, the newly re-imagined Sabatini’s will appeal to families with its handcrafted pasta dishes, prepared fresh daily. A geometric design will also feature a noodle room where guests can marvel at the noodle making process. The restaurant is designed with intimate bistro-style corners and a circular main room.
Princess live! – Here the design elements of Princess Live! and the Explorer’s Lounge, popular with guests will be combined. Join-in cruise activities include game shows and a daily wake show. The area is characterized by an inviting semi-open facade and a large LED screen on the stage. Guests can easily walk over to a nearby restaurant or cocktail lounge.
The Shops of Princess – With five shops and an art gallery, The Shops of Princess is getting a makeover on the SUN PRINCESS, and guests can expect the same great experience as on the other Princess cruise ships, only more of it. Modern, elegant boutiques connect seamlessly and offer interactive experiences. Guests can conveniently shop from room to room. These include Princess logo merchandise, a lifestyle boutique, a new bazaar with site-specific offerings, as well as jewellery, watches, cosmetic fragrances and a contemporary art gallery.
Other areas with new design and decoration are Crooner’s, Wheelhouse Bar, International Café, Good Spirits and the Gelateria.

Der Bau der EXPLORA II war am 21. Oktober 2022 auf der Fincantieri-Werft in Castellamare di Stabia bei Neapel begonnen worden. Der Cruise Liner wird eine Vermessung von ca. 63.900 gross tons haben.

On February 8th, the traditional coin ceremony of the EXPLORA II took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente near Genoa. The second ship for Explora Journeys, the luxury brand of MSC Cruises, is scheduled to set sail in August 2024.
The godmothers of the ship, Feliciana Maresca, Executive Assistant to Michael Ungerer, and Martina Mosca, Supervisor Hull Fabrication at Fincantieri, placed commemorative coins into the ship as a blessing for the construction and good luck charms for the future as part of the ceremony. The celebration was also attended by Michael Ungerer, CEO of Explora Journeys, Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman Cruise Division MSC Group, and Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO at Fincantieri.
Construction of the EXPLORA II began on October 21, 2022 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Castellamare di Stabia near Naples. The cruise liner will have a measurement of approximately 63.900 gross tons.

Mit dem Fluten des Trockendocks wurde die Zeremonie offiziell abgeschlossen.
Die SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR (IMO 9877444), das sechste Schiff von Regent Seven Seas Cruises, soll ab November 2023 in See stechen. Die Jungfernfahrt wird durch die Adria und das westliche Mittelmeer führen – mit Triest als Starthafen und Barcelona als Zielhafen.
Die SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR wird bei einer Bruttoraumzahl von 55.500 für nur 746 Passagiere ausgelegt. Der Gast an Bord darf sich an Luxus und Eleganz des Schiffs erfreuen. Die teuerste Suite, die Regent Suite, wird dabei für etwa 11.000 $ pro Nacht angeboten. Die SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR wird auch eine Kunstsammlung im Wert von mehreren Millionen Dollar beherbergen, darunter mit dem Pièce de Résistance ein maßgefertigtes Meisterwerk sei – das erste Fabergé-Ei, das sich dauerhaft auf See befindet.

On January 26, 2023, the SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR floated out from the construction dock of the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. This marks another milestone in the construction phase of this luxury cruise ship for Regent Seven Seas Cruises. The Float Out ceremony was celebrated with a small christening, which traditionally involved a champagne bottle being smashed on the bow. Orsinja Myshku, Senior Controller at Fincantieri Ancona, was the godmother and cut a ribbon after a prayer from the shipyard chaplain. The ceremony officially ended with the flooding of the dry dock.
SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR (IMO 9877444), Regent Seven Seas Cruises‘ sixth ship, is scheduled to set sail in November 2023. The maiden voyage will be through the Adriatic Sea and western Mediterranean Sea, with Trieste as the port of departure and Barcelona as the port of destination.
The SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR with a gross tonnage of 55,500 is designed for only 746 passengers. The guests on board can enjoy the luxury and elegance of the ship. The most expensive suite, the Regent Suite, is offered for around $11,000 per night. The SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR will also house a multi-million dollar art collection, including the Pièce de Résistance, a custom-made masterpiece – the first Fabergé Egg permanently at sea.
Ende vergangener Woche haben Virgin Voyages mit der RESILIENT LADY (IMO 9805348) bereits ihr drittes Kreuzfahrtschiff von Fincantieri in Sestri Ponente übernommen. Der mit 110.000 gross tons vermessene Cruise Liner ist ein Schwesterschiff der SCARLET LADY (IMO 9804801) und VALIANT LADY (IMO 9805336).
Die RESILIENT LADY wird 2023 in Piräus als Basishafen für 8-Nächte-Kreuzfahrten ins östliche Mittelmeer bzw. in die Adria stationiert. Am 22. Oktober soll sie dann zu einer Überführungsreise nach Australien aufbrechen, um anschließend Sydney als neuen Basishafen zu haben.
Mit der BRILLIANT LADY (IMO 9870654) ist bereits das vierte Kreuzfahrtschiff dieser Reihe in Bau.
Virgin Voyages took delivery of their third cruise ship

At the end of last week, Virgin Voyages took delivery of RESILIENT LADY RESILIENT LADY (IMO 9805348), their third cruise ship from Fincantieri, Sestri Ponente, Italy. The cruise liner, measured at 110,000 gross tons, is a sister ship to the SCARLET LADY (IMO 9804801) und VALIANT LADY (IMO 9805336).
The RESILIENT LADY will be stationed in Piraeus in 2023 as the base port for 8-night cruises to the eastern Mediterranean and the Adriatic. On October 22, she is scheduled to embark on a ferry voyage to Australia, after which she will have Sydney as her new base port.
With the BRILLIANT LADY (IMO 9870654), the fourth cruise ship in this series is already under construction.

She will be the first cruise ship of the new Sphere class and is currently under construction at Fincantieri, Monfalcone: the new SUN PRINCESS. She will be the first LNG-powered vessel in the Princess fleet, offering space for up to 4,300 passengers in 2,150 guest cabins on 21 decks, including 1,500 balcony cabins. 29 bars and restaurants will be available to guests on board.
Highlights on board will include the Piazza and The Dome. The latter is a covered pool area that transforms into an extraordinary stage and entertainment venue in the evening.
With the Signature Collection an exclusive suites area with exclusive access to the Signature Restaurant, Signature Lounge and Signature Sun Deck, a private area of the Sanctuary, will be introduced.
The SUN PRINCESS is scheduled to set sail for the first time in early 2024.

Die Gäste der Taufzeremonie erlebten einen atemberaubenden Auftritt der beliebten isländischen Gruppe Daði og Gagnamagnið, bekannt geworden durch den Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Anschließend betrat Taufpatin Katy Perry die Hauptbühne, um das Schiff mit dem zeremoniellen Zerbrechen der Champagnerflasche am Schiffsrumpf offiziell zu taufen. Die dreistöckige Prima Theatre & Club-Bühne wurde dann in eine außergewöhnlich Kulisse verwandelt, in der die Gäste eine kraftvolle Darbietung einiger von Perrys Top Hits, darunter „California Gurls“, „Teenage Dream“, „Roar“ und „Firework“, genossen.
„Es hat so viel Spaß gemacht, etwas Feenstaub auf die Norwegian Prima zu streuen und sie damit auf den Weg zu schicken, um auf hoher See zu fahren“, sagte Katy Perry. „Ich freue mich immer über einen Familienurlaub und ein einmaliges Erlebnis, daher wünsche ich allen Urlaubsgästen eine gute Reise!“
Vor der Taufzeremonie wurden die Gäste mit einem authentischen isländischen Erlebnis im Kulturzentrum HARPA überrascht. Die Teilnehmer bekamen eine fesselnde LED-Lichtshow des Künstlers Olafur Eliasson sowie Auftritte des isländischen Singer-Songwriters Bríet und des Iceland Symphony Orchestra in einer beeindruckenden Show zu sehen.

On August 27, the NORWEGIAN PRIMA, the first of six planned Prima-class cruise ships, was christened in Reykjavik, Iceland. Godmother was the American singer and songwriter Katy Perry („I Kissed A Girl“).
Guests at the naming ceremony witnessed a breathtaking performance by the popular Icelandic group Daði og Gagnamagnið, made famous by the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Godmother Katy Perry then took to the main stage to officially christen the ship with the ceremonial breaking of the champagne bottle on the ship’s hull. The three-story Prima Theater & Club stage was then transformed into an extraordinary setting where guests enjoyed a powerful performance of some of Perry’s top hits including „California Gurls“, „Teenage Dream“, „Roar“ and „Firework“.
„It was so much fun putting some pixie dust on Norwegian Prima and sending her out to sea,“ said Katy Perry. „I’m always happy about a family holiday and a unique experience, so I wish all holiday guests a safe journey!“
Before the naming ceremony, guests were treated to an authentic Icelandic experience at the HARPA cultural center. Attendees were treated to an immersive LED light show by artist Olafur Eliasson, as well as performances by Icelandic singer-songwriter Bríet and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in one immersive show.

Diese hat nun die AEGEAN MYTH (IMO 8919257) von Seajets erworben und in RENAISSANCE umbenannt. Bei dem Schiff handelt es sich um die ehemalige MAASDAM der Holland America Line, gebaut 1993 bei Fincantieri in Monfalcone, 219,21 Meter lang und mit 55.575 gross tons vermessen. Holland America Line hatte das Schiff der Statendam-Klasse 2020 während der Corona-Pandemie an die griechische Gesellschaft Seajets verkauft, die es in AEGEAN MYTH umbenannt, aber selbst nie zum Einsatz gebracht hatte.

AEGEAN MYTH ex MAASDAM sold to France

A new French cruise company is formed with the CFC Compagnie Française de Croisières. This new company just acquired the AEGEAN MYTH (IMO 8919257) from Seajets and renamed her RENAISSANCE. The ship is the former MAASDAM of the Holland America Line, built in 1993 by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, 219.21 meters long and measured at 55,575 gross tons. Holland America Line had sold the Statendam-class ship to the Greek company Seajets in 2020 during the corona pandemic, which renamed her AEGEAN MYTH but never made use of her.
The founders of CFC Compagnie Française de Croisières, based in Marseille, are Clément Mousset, former Director of CMV France, and Cédric Rivoire Perrochat, former Director of Marketing, Communications and Operations at CMV France. The founders want to announce more details at the beginning of September.
Norwegian Cruise Line übernimmt erstes Schiff der Prima-Klasse

Noch fünf weitere Kreuzfahrtschiffe der Prima-Klasse sollen von Fincantieri für NCL bis 2027 gebaut werden.
NORWEGIAN PRIMA delivered – NCL took delivery of first Prima class ship
On July 29, 2022, Norwegian Cruise Line took delivery of their first Prima-class cruise ship, NORWEGIAN PRIMA (IMO 9823986), from Fincantieri, Marghera. The approximately 300 meter long ship offers space for up to 3,215 passengers and is scheduled to start service shortly.
Fincantieri plans to build five more Prima-class cruise ships for NCL by 2027.
Modifizierte Versionen für EXPLORA III und IV geplant
Am 30. Mai wurde auf der Fincantieri-Werft im italienischen Monfalcone das Aufschwimmen der EXPLORA I (IMO 9869875) gefeiert. Sie ist das erste von vier Kreuzfahrtschiffen für Explora Journeys, der Luxus-Kreuzfahrtmarke von MSC Cruises. Die Fertigstellung ist für Ende Mai 2023 geplant.

EXPLORA I Floated Out – Photo Gallery
On May 30th, the floating out of EXPLORA I (IMO 9869875) was celebrated on the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. She is the first of four cruise ships for Explora Journeys, MSC Cruises‘ luxury cruise brand. Completion is scheduled for the end of May 2023.
A year later, in the summer of 2024, the EXPLORA II (IMO 9869887), whose construction has already begun, should also be completed. A modified version with an LNG drive is currently being tested for the construction of the EXPLORA III and IV (IMO 9869899 + IMO 9869904).

Am 12. Mai 2022 haben Viking Cruises ihr neuestes Hochsee-Kreuzfahrtschiff, die VIKING MARS, von der Bauwerft Fincantieri in Ancona übernommen. Die VIKING MARS, vermessen mit 47.800 gross tons ist das bereits achte Schiff derselben Reihe. Sie bietet Platz für 930 Passagiere in 465 Kabinen.
VIKING MARS nimmt nun Kurs auf Valletta, Malta, wo sie am 17. Mai getauft werden soll. Taufpatin wird Lady Fiona Carnarvon, Countess of Carnarvon, sein. Sie ist Besitzerin des Highclere Castle im Süden Englands, welches als Drehort für verschiedene Filme und Fernsehserien diente, so auch für die TV-Serie „Downtown Abbey“. Viking Cruises sind Lady Carnarvon und ihrem Schloss in besonderer Weise verbunden. So können Gäste von Viking Cruises einen Aufenthalt auf Highclere Castle als Vor- oder Nachprogramm bestimmter Kreuzfahrten hinzubuchen.

Fincantieri handing over eighth ocean-going cruise ship to Viking Cruises
On May 12, 2022, Viking Cruises took delivery of their newest ocean-going cruise ship, the VIKING MARS, from the shipyard Fincantieri in Ancona. The VIKING MARS, measured at 47,800 gross tons, is the eighth ship in the same series. She has a passenger capacity of 930 in 465 cabins.
VIKING MARS is now setting course for Valletta, Malta, where she is scheduled to be christened on May 17th. Godmother will be Lady Fiona Carnarvon, Countess of Carnarvon. She is the owner of Highclere Castle in southern England, which has been used as a filming location for various films and television series, including the TV series „Downtown Abbey“. Viking Cruises have a special bond with Lady Carnarvon and her castle. Viking Cruises guests can book a stay at Highclere Castle as a pre- or post-cruise cruise.

Am 29. April wurde die DISCOVERY PRINCESS in einer phantasievollen Zeremonie im Hafen von Los Angeles getauft.
Vier Fernsehstars und Showmoderatoren traten gemeinsam als Taufpaten auf: Modedesigner Randy Fenoli, der Küchenchef Alex Guarnaschelli, der Spezialeffektdesigner und -hersteller Adam Savage sowie der Immobilienmakler und Flipper Extraordinaire Page Turner. In Anwesenheit von Kapitän Gennaro Arma schickten sie eine riesige Flasche Champagner Richtung Bordwand, womit die Discovery Princess offiziell getauft und in der Flotte von Princess Cruises aufgenommen war.
Die 3.660 Gäste fassende Discovery Princess wurde bei Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italien, gebaut und ist der sechste und letzte Neubau der Royal-Klasse. Ihre Schwesterschiffe sind die Enchanted Princess,Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess und Royal Princess.
Die DISCOVERY PRINCESS wird in ihrer ersten Sommersaison für siebentägige Alaska-Kreuzfahrten von Seattle aus eingesetzt.
Naming Ceremony for DISCOVERY PRINCESS
On April 29th, the DISCOVERY PRINCESS was christened in an imaginative ceremony in the port of Los Angeles. Four television stars and show hosts appeared as godparents together: fashion designer Randy Fenoli, chef Alex Guarnaschelli, special effects designer and producer Adam Savage, and real estate agent and flipper extraordinaire Page Turner. In the presence of Captain Gennaro Arma, they sent a huge bottle of champagne towards the ship’s hull, officially christening the Discovery Princess and welcoming her to the Princess Cruises fleet.
Built at Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italy, the 3,660-guest Discovery Princess is the sixth and final newbuild of the Royal Class. Her sister ships are the Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess and Royal Princess.
The DISCOVERY PRINCESS will offer in her first summer season seven-day Alaskan cruises from Seattle.

Die VISTA soll ihre Jungfernfahrt von Rom nach Barcelona am 14. April 2023 antreten. Es folgen zwölf weiteren Europareisen, bevor sie mit Abfahrten ab den USA nach Kanada und Neuengland, zum Panamakanal und in die Karibik startet.

Oceania’s new cruise ship VISTA floated out
Oceania Cruises celebrated the float out of their new 67,000-ton, 1,200-guest VISTA on February 25th at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente, Italy, next to Genoa. The VISTA ist the first Allura class ship for Oceania Cruises.
Presiding over the ceremony were Giuseppe Torrente, Shipyard Director for Fincantieri; and His Excellency Monsignor Tasca, Archbishop of Genoa. After the blessing of the ship, the shipyard’s Madrina, Miss Anna Trucco, released a bottle of prosecco against the hull to invite good fortune for the ship and all those that will sail on her.
VISTA will sail her maiden voyage from Rome to Barcelona on April 14, 2023, followed by twelve additional European voyages prior to commencing sailings from the United States to the Canadian Maritimes and New England, the Panama Canal, and the Caribbean.

On January 28, 2022, Princess Cruises took delivery of their DISCOVERY PRINCESS (IMO 9837468) from the shipyard Fincantieri in Monfalcone. The DISCOVERY PRINCESS is the sixth and final Royal Class cruise ship. She has a gross tonnage of 145,281 and can accommodate 3,660 passengers.
The new cruise liner will soon set course for the US West Coast to cruise from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera. In the summer of this year, the DISCOVERY PRINCESS will then be used for seven-day cruises from Seattle to Alaska.
